The Thea Haubrich Legacy Fund has been established with the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan | Similkameen by Thea’s husband, Peter Haubrich.  The purpose of the endowment fund is to provide ongoing financial support to  artists, with a focus on encaustic art, wanting to further their education.

Thea’s Story

Thea Haubrich passed away on September 25, 2013 after a long and courageous battle following several strokes.

Born in Rotterdam, Holland, Thea and her husband, Peter, left Holland around 1980 and lived in Vienna (where their son was born), Germany, Japan, Germany again and now in British Columbia, Canada, near the city of Penticton – “A place to stay forever!”

When Thea and Peter decided to immigrate to Canada, she saw her path as promoting Encaustic Art by giving workshops and networking to share as much knowledge about the art as possible. Thea did this through researching, learning, teaching, sharing, and networking.

With a natural talent of connecting with others, many people commented on Thea’s unique ability to do this. She did not see herself just as an artist but as a facilitator with a passion for creating art with beeswax.
