The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen has launched the Amigos De Canada Grants, a new granting opportunity supporting seasonal and migrant workers to create gatherings, activities, and shared experiences in their communities.
Grants of up to $500 are available for simple, worker-led ideas that bring people together through food, culture, sports, music, learning, celebration, and friendship.
The program is built around a simple belief: connection matters.
Seasonal and migrant workers make important contributions to communities across the South Okanagan Similkameen. Yet opportunities to gather, build friendships, share culture, and create a sense of belonging can be limited—especially for workers who are far from family, working long hours, or living in unfamiliar communities.
The Amigos De Canada Grants are intended to help workers create those opportunities for themselves.
A gathering might include watching a soccer match together, sharing a meal, hosting a picnic, organizing a sports activity, teaching a dance, making music, sharing a skill, or creating another activity that helps workers connect.
Ideas do not need to be complicated, and applicants do not need to belong to an organization or have previous experience organizing events.
The Foundation encourages two or more workers to plan and lead activities together. Shared leadership helps divide responsibilities, bring forward more ideas, and strengthen relationships among participants.
The grant may help cover costs such as food, supplies, equipment or space rentals, transportation, and other reasonable expenses connected to the gathering. Applicants do not need to submit a formal budget. They simply need to describe their idea, who they hope to invite, and how the funding would help.
Applications are open to seasonal and migrant workers living or working in the South Okanagan Similkameen. Trusted community members and local organizations may help with an application or activity, but the gathering should be shaped and led by workers.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with funding decisions based on worker leadership, opportunities for connection and belonging, accessibility, participation, reasonable costs, and alignment with the purpose of the Amigos De Canada Fund.

La subvención puede ayudar a cubrir gastos como comida, materiales, alquiler de equipo o espacios, transporte y otros costos razonables relacionados con la actividad. No es necesario presentar un presupuesto formal. Las personas solicitantes solo deben describir su idea, a quiénes esperan invitar y cómo ayudaría el financiamiento.
Las solicitudes están abiertas a trabajadores temporales y migrantes que viven o trabajan en South Okanagan Similkameen. Personas de confianza de la comunidad y organizaciones locales pueden ayudar con la solicitud o la actividad, pero el encuentro debe ser diseñado y dirigido por los trabajadores.
Las solicitudes se revisarán de manera continua. Las decisiones de financiamiento se basarán en el liderazgo de los trabajadores, las oportunidades para crear conexión y sentido de pertenencia, la accesibilidad, la participación esperada, la razonabilidad de los gastos y la alineación con el propósito del Fondo Amigos De Canada.
