Our fall activities were a hit, even if the weather didn’t always cooperate. Both the canning workshop and the Garden 102 class brought together small groups of eight neighbours each, and we had great conversations and lots of learning in both sessions.
The big Harvest Party drew more than 100 people, despite the rain. We were lucky to have a crew of local home-school teens step in to help run the different stations, and they were fantastic – setting up tents and tables, helping with pumpkin carving, managing games like gunny-sack races and the beanbag toss, keeping an eye on the fire pit and beverage station, and even helping with parking.
Everyone went home with at least one carved pumpkin (some with two!) and we met so many new neighbours throughout the day. Even soaked through, people were laughing and having good old-fashioned fun.
We’re really grateful for the support of this grant. It makes hosting these kinds of community events possible for us – and we love seeing how much people enjoy them.
