Sixties Soiree in Summerland

We held the “Sixties Soiree” on Saturday evening, November 15, at the historic IOOF hall in downtown Summerland. Invitation is below:

Enjoy a fun evening talking about, and listening to, the music and events of that crazy era. Bring your stories, your hippie outfits and your dancing shoes! You don’t have to be a baby boomer to take in this event, and you can dance your face off if you like. We will have an informal open mic, an amazing curated selection of 50’s to 70’s music, together with pizza and beverages.

Some thirty people attended, and we heard some amazing and hilarious stories about their youthful adventures. We feasted on local pizza and nibbles. Our music maestro Caroline M, who had brought her awesome sound equipment, then proceeded to play recordings of classic songs of the era, ranging from Credence Clearwater to Jimmy Buffett. And we danced. And then we danced some more. The lovely hardwood floor of the Hall, the good acoustics, the friendly atmosphere and the memorable songs brought a bunch of folks out on to the floor.

Many thanks to the Neighborhood Small Grants program for supporting this community event.
