A group BBQ returned this year thanks to the City of Penticton and the Community Foundation’s Neighbourhood Small Grants program.

A tenant at one of the properties managed by South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society (SOSBIS) applied and was awarded the funds. The program provides up to $500 for local ideas from individuals or small groups looking to bring projects to life after every year.

“This marks the second time the resident has received support from the Community Foundation to bring neighbors together – and once again, it was a resounding success,” Candice Collins with SOSBIS said.

“With the help of a few dedicated volunteers, the tenant organized a lively summer BBQ that drew more than 60 attendees. Guests enjoyed a delicious spread of hamburgers, fresh salad, juicy watermelon, and homemade cookies, all served under the warm Okanagan sun.” Live classic rock music was played by Paul James and neighbours of all ages were up dancing, Collins said. “The event not only celebrated summer but also strengthened the bonds within the community,” she added.

“Thanks to the initiative and care of this resident, and the continued support of the Community Foundation and the City of Penticton, the neighbourhood was reminded of the joy that comes from sharing good food, great music, and even better company.”
